LOCTITE® 6482
LOCTITE® 6482 is a green, low-viscosity retaining compound designed for cylindrical parts. It is optimised for high-temperature performance, low halogen and sulphur content, and offers strong adhesion with UV fluorescence for inspection.
LOCTITE® 6482 is formulated to bond shafts, bushings, bearings and gears into housings and onto shafts, even in challenging environments. It cures anaerobically within tight metal fits, delivering high shear strength of at least 18 N/mm² after 24 hours. The acrylic ester chemistry provides service reliability up to 175 °C and its low sulphur and halogen formulation makes it suitable for sensitive metals such as titanium—ideal for nuclear, aerospace and power generation sectors where component integrity and material compatibility are critical.
Specifications
Appearance: Green liquid, UV-fluorescent Specific gravity: ~1.13 at 25 °C Viscosity: 400–600 mPa·s (Haake cone & plate at 129 s⁻¹) Compressive shear strength: ≥ 18 N/mm² after 24 h at 22 °C Maximum service temperature: +175 °C Halogen content: ≤ 200 ppm; sulphur content: ≤ 200 ppm Gap fill: up to 0.15 mm Cure type: Anaerobic; activators supported for passive metals Bottle sizes: 50 ml (larger sizes available) Primary Chemistry: Urethane methacrylate acrylic ester
Features & Benefits
Thixotropic, low-viscosity formula ensures precise application without dripping
High-temperature resistance maintains bond under heat stress
Low halogen and sulphur levels prevent corrosion on sensitive alloys
Fluoresces under UV light to enable fast quality control
Anaerobic cure without mixing simplifies assembly
High shear strength secures rotating and load-bearing parts
Problems Solved
Prevents fretting and loosening in high-temperature rotating assemblies
Enables retention of precision shafts and gears without mechanical fasteners
Protects titanium and plated surfaces from aggressive additives
Provides rapid quality inspection using UV fluorescence
Reduces assembly complexity thanks to one-part anaerobic cure
Applications
Use LOCTITE® 6482 for press fit, slip fit or shrink fit assemblies of bearings, sprockets, rotors and gears on shafts
Clean surfaces thoroughly and apply activator for inactive substrates like stainless or titanium
Apply coating to male and female parts, assemble with rotation to distribute and allow 24 hours for full cure
For disassembly, heat locally to ~250 °C
Fluorescence allows quick inspection of full coverage under UV light
